1 dead, 3 injured in accident at Nashik’s Upnagar

Nashik: Four people, including a woman, were injured when a hatchback car going from the Nashik Road side towards Nashik city rammed into a group of people standing outside an automobile showroom in the Upnagar area on Saturday afternoon. The woman, identified as Sheetal Kharote (30) of Panchak, Jail Road, later succumbed to her injuries.Police said the accident took place around 3.30pm on Saturday. The car hit the group outside the showroom and also hit vehicles parked along the road side. Three to four two wheelers were damaged.Soon after the accident, city police visited the spot and, with the help of other people, shifted the injured to hospital.

Senior inspector Jayant Shirsath, of the Upnagar police station, said the injured suffered moderate injuries. The car driver was booked under relevant sections of the BNS for rash and negligent driving.On the stretch between the Shrine of Infant Jesus and the Upnagar road signal, there are a few commercial buildings and people coming to the shops and offices have to park their vehicles along the road. The roadside parking at this spot also leads to traffic congestions for most part of the day.Many commuters said the roadside illegal parking on the already congested Nashik-Pune road, mainly on the stretch from Nashik Road to Dwarka side, should be banned by the police.
