Yamaha has taken a big step forward in two-wheeler safety with the 2026 Tricity 300. The three-wheeled maxi-scooter is set to become the world’s first production scooter to feature an airbag system.

Developed in collaboration with Autoliv, the airbag is integrated into the front apron of the scooter, just below the handlebars. It is designed to deploy during frontal collisions, cushioning the rider from impact with the handlebars and other hard components.

This system has been specifically engineered for two-wheelers, taking into account packaging constraints, rider position, and balance. Yamaha claims that the addition of the airbag does not affect practicality or storage space. That said, the non-airbag version gets a front central storage compartment to accommodate smaller items.

The Tricity 300 is based on Yamaha’s leaning multi-wheel platform and continues to be powered by a 292cc, single-cylinder engine. The motor is Euro5+ compliant, courtesy of a new catalytic converter that weighs 800g less than the older model.

Besides the updated mechanicals, the 2026 Yamaha Tricity 300 also receives minor styling tweaks and feature upgrades. It gets all-LED lighting, a 4.2-inch colour TFT display, smartphone connectivity, and Garmin navigation via the StreetCross app. It also features cornering ABS.

The new Tricity 300 will go on sale in international markets in the second half of 2026. As for India, Yamaha is unlikely to introduce the model here.
