5 Overpriced SUVs In India – Toyota. Mahindra & More

India is a very price-sensitive market and customers can also be quite demanding as well. As such, one may expect automakers to aggressively price their products for the Indian automobile market.

However, here’s a list of SUVs that are currently being sold in India but are quite a bit more expensive for the segment and for what they offer at that price point.

Toyota Fortuner GR-S: The Toyota Fortuner GR-S takes the top spot on this list without much competition. Priced at Rs 50.43 lakh (ex-showroom), the Toyota Fortuner GR-S is ridiculously overpriced for its segment. In fact, it is more expensive than some of the entry-level premium SUVs in the country.

Citroen C5 Aircross: French carmaker Citroen wanted to position itself as a fairly premium brand in India with the launch of the Citroen C5 Aircross. However, with a starting price of Rs 37.17 lakh (ex-showroom), the French SUV is significantly more expensive than its immediate rivals.

Mahindra Bolero: With a starting price of Rs 9.78 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mahindra Bolero may seem like a bargain compared to the above-listed SUVs. However, the Mahindra Bolero is an outdated SUV and only offers a handful of features, for which, we think it is an overpriced SUV.

Toyota Hilux: Though Toyota recently reduced the price of the Hilux SUV in India, we still think it is slightly overpriced for what it offers. Furthermore, its direct competitor, the Isuzu V-Cross is significantly cheaper as well. At present, prices for the Toyota Hilux starts from Rs 30.40 lakh (ex-showroom).

Jeep Compass Model S 4X4: The Model S variant of the Jeep Compass equipped with a diesel powertrain and 4X4 system is priced at Rs 31.64 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, we expect more from a car, which the Jeep Compass fails to match up to.
