BMW M, the performance division of the German luxury and sports car manufacturer has shared a teaser of the upcoming M5 sedan and M5 Touring. BMW M dropped the teaser of both these performance cars on their official YouTube handle.
Releasing the trailer of the BMW M5 sedan and M5 Touring the company shared that the multi-year development of both these cars is nearing completion and the hashtags used by the company in the captions suggest the inclusion of a hybrid drivetrain in these upcoming performance cars. The caption states, “The multi-year development phase of the BMW M5 Sedan and BMW M5 Touring is coming to an end. Take a look behind the scenes”.
The teaser shared by the company offers a glimpse of the design sketches of the upcoming M5 sedan and M5 Touring. The video then takes us behind the scene showcasing the development of these cars. Then the video showcases a camouflaged M5 sedan undergoing testing in icy conditions, a brief shot of the interior gives a sneak peak of the steering wheel and paddle shifter. The M5 sedan then shows its pedigree by going sideways on an icy test track. The video then shifts focus to the M5 Touring which then goes out on the dry and sunny test track and is soon joined by the M5 sedan. The video then cuts to both these cars heading out on an icy test track where both these cars are put through their paces with plenty of sideways action before the video comes to an end.
According to popular media reports the upcoming BMW M5 sedan and the M5 Touring will sport a hybrid powertrain with 4.4L V8 and electric powertrain with lithium-ion battery pack and will likely be the last of its kind V8 powered M5 cars. This will also be the second M car after the XM to sport an electrified powertrain. The company has however not revealed the timeline for these upcoming cars but since the development process is nearing completion we can expect these cars to debut in the second half of the year.
