New Delhi: Ather Energy has announced a collaboration with Google aimed at providing real-time availability information on two-wheeler fast-charging stations for EV users. This partnership will allow electric vehicle (EV) users to use the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS), the official EV charging connector standard in India. The Ather Grid, Ather’s fast-charging network, is equipped with LECCS ports for efficient charging.
This update aims to enhance the convenience of charging at public grids with the following improvements:
1. Ather Grid, Ather’s fast-charging network, is now visible on Google Maps with live status updates.
2. New chargers installed will be promptly listed on Google Maps.
3. LECCS is officially recognized as a plug type, enabling users to set LECCS as their default connector on Google Maps. Consequently, chargers with LECCS will appear when searching for “EV charger near me” or “charging stations” on Google Maps.
4. This ensures that any vehicle equipped with LECCS can easily locate and charge at Ather Grid fast-charging stations.
Currently, there are 1,973 fast chargers available to the public, with Ather continuously expanding its charging network. Ather Grid has developed a fast-charging network specifically for electric two-wheelers, using the domestically designed Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS). This system has received nationwide approval from the Bureau of Indian Standards. Introduced last year, this new standard is seen as a crucial move towards establishing a universal standard through interoperability, which is expected to enhance the acceptance of electric vehicles across the country.
Ather Energy stands out as the only electric two-wheeler manufacturer to integrate Google Maps directly into its scooter software. This software, known as Ather Stack, provides navigation through Google Maps along with real-time traffic updates.
