New Tata Punch EV Subscription Price, Running Cost, Subscription Model Explained

2026 Tata Punch EV Price, Running Cost, Subscription Model Explained

When it comes to entry-level electric vehicles, we expect to see models that are trying to offer an all-electric alternative to daily commuters, limited in range and restricted to city use. To tackle the perception of entry-level EVs being only good for short commutes, Tata Motors has launched the 2026 Punch EV with a larger 40 kWh battery pack and other significant updates that give it an extended range and more upmarket appeal. However, the biggest factor in the entry-level EV segment is purchasing cost and while the Punch EV has a starting price of Rs 9.69 lakh ex-showroom, you can also subscribe to one by only paying Rs 6.49 lakh up front. Here’s how it works.

New Tata Punch EV With BaaS Subscription Model

Tata Motors has launched the new Punch EV in five different variants that are priced between Rs 9.69 lakh and Rs 12.59 lakh ex-showroom, where the customer pays for the entire car up front. However, the carmaker has also introduced an alternate ownership plan where customers can rent the battery instead of paying for it. This brings the cost of the Punch EV Smart variant significantly down to Rs 6.49 lakh ex-showroom.

The subscription plan is part of a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model, where customers do not bear the cost of the battery and instead rent it on a monthly EMI basis. At an estimated rental cost of Rs 2.6 per kilometre, a user pays Rs 2,600 as battery rental or EMI if they drive 1,000 km every month. This estimate does not include public or home charging costs and any government taxes that a user may face at EV charging touchpoints. Moreover, Tata Motors also offers a 60 percent buyback assurance after 3 years of ownership or a 40 percent buyback after 5 years of ownership.

Punch EV Battery Rental Estimates Cost Rs 2.6 Per Km

Tata Motors has only announced the BaaS ownership model for the base Smart variant, which comes with the 30 kWh battery pack, giving the EV a C75 real-world range figure of 335 km on a full charge. The Baas subscription prices for the new 40 kWh long-range battery pack variants will be announced later. For comparison, the long-range battery offers a C75 real-world range figure of 355 km. For customer peace of mind, Tata Motors is also offering a lifetime warranty on the 40 Kwh battery pack but not the 30 kWh battery pack. Moreover, lifetime technically means that the warranty applies for a period of 15 years.

With the BaaS subscription model, Tata Motors has made the new Punch EV even more accessible to mass-market buyers and significantly reduced the gap between the Punch petrol and EV. The Punch petrol has a starting price of Rs 5.59, which is choosing to go all-electric, a matter of paying Rs 80,000 more up front.
