As India’s electric vehicle market continues to expand, automakers are introducing more accessible EV options for everyday commuters. One of the popular compact electric SUVs in the country today is the Tata Punch EV which is designed for city driving with a touch of rugged SUV styling.

Among its multiple variants, the Adventure 40 stands out as the mid-level variant, which offers a balanced combination of range, performance and features. This version is priced at Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and is placed between the entry-level and top-end trims.

Battery And Range

The Punch EV Adventure 40 is powered by a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which delivers an ARAI-certified range of up to 468 km on a single charge. This range makes it suitable for both daily city commutes and longer drives.

The electric motor produces around 90 kW which is about 122-129 PS of power and 154 Nm of torque, providing quick acceleration and smooth driving. In fact, the Punch EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 9 seconds, which is quite impressive for a compact electric SUV.

With 65 kW DC fast charging, the battery can charge from 20 to 80 percent in just about 26 minutes. For home charging, Tata also offers a 7.2 kW AC wall box charger, making overnight charging simple.

Driving Features

The Adventure 40 variant comes with several intelligent driving features that enhance both efficiency and control. Drivers get multi-mode regenerative braking, which helps recover energy while slowing down the vehicle. The regeneration strength can be adjusted using paddle shifters.

The SUV also offers multiple drive modes including Eco, City and Sport, allowing drivers to select a driving style that suits their needs. This vehicle includes Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control and Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold, making it easier to drive in traffic and on slopes.

Technology And Connectivity

Inside the cabin, the Punch EV Adventure 40 is equipped with a 20.32 cm (8-inch) infotainment system developed by Harman, which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system is complemented by four speakers.

The car also includes iRA connected car technology, offering more than 50 smart features, including smartwatch connectivity. Drivers can monitor vehicle information and access connected features through their smartphones.

Other convenience features include automatic climate control (i-FATC), push-button start, keyless entry, steering-mounted controls, USB Type-C fast charging ports and a digital instrument cluster.

Safety

The Adventure 40 variant comes with six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat anchors. The vehicle also includes rear parking sensors and camera-based reverse park assist. Additional safety features include impact-sensing auto door unlock, tyre pressure monitoring system (iTPMS) and high-beam alert.

Design

On the outside, the Punch EV maintains the bold styling that made the original Punch popular. The Adventure 40 variant features Smart Digital DRLs, LED headlamps, a shark-fin antenna and 16-inch steel wheels with hubcaps. The SUV also offers practical touches such as electric tailgate release, adjustable driver seat and adjustable rear headrests, ensuring comfort for both driver and passengers.

With its long driving range, smart features and strong safety package, the Punch EV Adventure 40 sits right in the sweet spot of the lineup. It offers more capability than the base model while remaining significantly more affordable than the top variants.
