Triumph 350cc Range’s Engine Specifications Leaked before Launch

  • Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X/XC make 36.5 bhp and 32Nm
  • Thruxton 400 produces 39.5bhp and 32Nm
  • Speed T4 power down to 28.5bhp and 31Nm

Triumph Motorcycles is all set to launch the 350cc iterations of its Speed, Scrambler, and Thruxton 400 range in India on 6 April. Ahead of its official launch, the specifications of the upcoming 350cc engine have leaked online. While the drop in power appears marginal on paper, the torque output has taken a noticeable hit.

Interestingly, the new 350cc motor also makes its peak power slightly higher up the rev range, compared to the 398cc unit. This hints at the potentially peaky nature of the engine that could come at the cost of low-end grunt, possibly requiring more frequent gear shifts in stop-and-go traffic.

Starting with the Speed T4, the 350cc version is expected to produce 28.6Nm at 7,500rpm and 31Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm. This is down by 2bhp and 5Nm, compared to the existing model. Performance figures have marginally gone down with a 0-60kmph time of 3.5 seconds and 0-100kmph in 9.6 seconds. The top speed has also come down from 141.4kmph to 137kmph.

The 350cc-powered Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X/XC are likely to deliver 36.5bhp at 8,500rpm and 32Nm at 7,000rpm, compared to the 398cc motor’s 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. Meanwhile, the Thruxton 400, in 350cc guise, is expected to make 39.5bhp at 8,750rpm and 32Nm at 7,500rpm. In comparison, the current model produces 41.5bhp and 37.5Nm. It remains the fastest of the lot with a claimed top speed of 157kmph. Here is a detailed breakdown of the performance figures of both engines in the Triumph’s 400 lineup.

Overall, while outright performance figures remain close to the 400 range, the reduced torque output and higher-revving nature of the 350cc engine suggest that it may deliver a different riding character. We will be testing the new 350cc-equipped Triumph 400 range soon to see how this downsized motor performs in the real world.

With the official launch scheduled for 6 April, more details, including pricing, will be revealed soon.
