New Metzeler SPORTEC 01 Range for Both Road and Track Use

New Metzeler SPORTEC 01 Range for Both Road and Track Use

  • SPORTEC 01; sporty road use with stronger wet-weather ability
  • SPORTEC 01 RS; dry grip and track-capable road performance
  • Patented DYNATREAD adaptive tread technology

Metzeler has added adding two fresh new SPORTEC 01 and SPORTEC 01 RS products to its supersport family. While both tyres share a common development base, SPORTEC 01 is designed for riders who want a sporty road tyre with versatility and ease of use while the SPORTEC 01 RS is positioned as the more track-oriented option for riders who want stronger dry grip and more direct feedback.

SPORTEC 01 has been developed for riders who want high performance on dry roads but also benchmark behaviour in the wet with precise and intuitive handling. It is meant for owners of supersport, naked and crossover motorcycles for fast riding on winding roads and urban streets with added stability, safety and everyday usability.

SPORTEC 01 RS is a design for expert riders and owners of supersport, high-performance naked and hypernaked motorcycles who want racing-inspired feel on the road and the freedom to do track days on the same set of tyres. It is aimed at maximum dry-surface grip, sharper steering precision and more aggressive handling whilst remaining road legal.

Triumph Rear Tyre

There is a common design logic between the front and rear on both tyres to offer more consistent behaviour during braking and acceleration. SPORTEC 01 uses a redesigned tread pattern for improving water evacuation, directional stability and performance across wet and dry sport-riding. Its grooves are designed to work progressively as lean angle rises helping quick warming-up, grip and offering a balanced behaviour. On the SPORTEC 01 RS the concept becomes more compact and slick-like with a reduced land-to-sea ratio under load. That gives the RS a larger contact patch in dry conditions and a feel closer to a sticky slick tyre when ridden hard.

Triumph Front Tyre

SPORTEC 01 uses a high-silica dual-compound layout front and rear with a more stable central area and grip-focused shoulders. Metzeler says this helps deliver balanced performance across a broad temperature window suiting varied road use. The SPORTEC 01 RS uses a sportier dual-compound setup with a full-silica centre for stability and road use, while the shoulders use carbon black-based racing compounds derived from Metzeler’s Road Racing experience, the likes of the Isle of Man TT. There is also a racing-derived base layer designed to improve warm-up, grip and consistency under prolonged stress.

Triumph Front Tyre

SPORTEC 01 uses a harmonised front and rear design with a double rayon carcass and 0-degree steel belt at the front for braking stability and directional accuracy. It also relies on a single-ply rayon carcass with 0-degree steel belt at the rear for acceleration support and footprint control. The RS version goes a step further with a more evolved structure using materials such as PET, except in the 200/60 size which continues with rayon. This setup has been optimised for high-speed stability, sharper steering precision and better control in extreme riding conditions.

DYNATREAD (Metzeler’s patented adaptive tread pattern system) allows the tread grooves to respond to braking, acceleration and load by closing dynamically under stress increasing the contact patch when more grip is needed. While on riding on regular roads, the grooves remain effective for water drainage. The system can help reduce thermal and mechanical stress, limiting overheating and improving consistency.
