Royal Enfield recently expanded its 650cc portfolio with the launch of the new Bullet 650. At first glance, the motorcycle looks very similar to the Classic 650, and that’s because both bikes share the same engine, chassis, and cycle parts. However, there are a few elements that differentiate both motorcycles. Here’s a closer look at what sets the two bikes apart.

Old-school Styling

The biggest differences between the Royal Enfield Bullet 650 and Classic 650 lie in their design details. While both motorcycles share the same silhouette, the Bullet 650 features a more traditional appearance with its iconic Bullet-style squared-off rear fender, 3D tank badges, and a single-piece stepped seat.

The Bullet 650 also gets hand-painted detailing that harks back to earlier Bullet models. On the other hand, the Royal Enfield Classic 650 carries its own distinct badging and premium chrome-heavy styling cues. It also sports a rounder and more flowing rear mudguard design and a split seat setup with a removable pillion seat, mounted on a separate subframe.

Upright Ergonomics

Although the frame and rider triangle are broadly similar, Royal Enfield has made subtle ergonomic changes to create a different riding experience. The Bullet 650 uses a slightly taller and more natural-feeling handlebar that positions the rider’s arms in a relaxed manner. Combined with the single-piece seat, the setup offers a more neutral and comfortable riding posture.

The Classic 650, meanwhile, feels marginally more involving with an ever-so-slightly lower handlebar position and a floating rider seat. The result is that the Bullet 650 delivers a slightly more upright riding posture, while the Classic 650 leans towards a more premium retro-street feel.

Different Visual Appeal

The two motorcycles also appeal to different tastes when it comes to aesthetics. The Bullet 650 is available in just two colours – Cannon Black and Battleship Blue. Both paint schemes feature hand-painted gold pinstripes, a signature design element that has long been associated with the Bullet nameplate.

The Classic 650, on the other hand, is offered in a wider palette consisting of Vallam Red, Bruntingthorpe Blue, Teal, and Black Chrome shades. Depending on the variant, buyers also get more chrome detailing that makes the motorcycle look richer and more ornate.

In terms of overall character, the Bullet 650 comes across as the more understated and heritage-focused motorcycle. The Classic 650, meanwhile, is designed to attract riders looking for a more premium and visually evocative modern-retro machine.

Pricing

The Royal Enfield Bullet 650 is offered in a single variant and is priced at Rs. 3.65 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the Classic 650 range starts at the same Rs. 3.65 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Vallam Red and Bruntingthorpe Blue variants. The Teal shade is positioned above these and is priced at Rs. 3.70 lakh, while the range-topping Black Chrome variant commands a premium of Rs. 3.79 lakh (ex-showroom).

Both motorcycles remain mechanically identical. Power comes from Royal Enfield’s 648cc, air/oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine that produces 47bhp and 52.3Nm, paired with a six-speed gearbox and slip-assist clutch. The two bikes also share the same steel frame, suspension setup, wheels, and brakes.

Both motorcycles also have an identical kerb weight of 243kg. The final decision of choosing between the two comes down to what appeals more to your tastes, the traditional heritage of the Bullet 650 or the premium modern-retro appeal of the Classic 650.
