Hero Xpulse 421 Incoming – What to Expect?

The upcoming Hero Xpulse 421 was recently spotted testing, sparking fresh speculations about its impending launch. While the bike is still some time away from its market launch, here’s what we can expect from the Xpulse 421.

Adventure Styling

The spy pictures and previous design patents have revealed that the Hero Xpulse 421 will feature proper ADV styling. The design lends a unique identity to the Xpulse 421 with hints of styling cues from the Yamaha Tenere 700. The high-set headlamp, tall visor, and large fuel tank with extended radiator shrouds lend it a unique identity, and the overall styling has hints of the Yamaha Tenere 700.

In true ADV fashion, the Xpulse 421 test mule was seen with knuckle guards, underbelly protection, and a rear parcel rack to haul luggage or mount a top box.

Modern Features

The test prototype also revealed many details about the bike’s features. For starters, the Xpulse 421 will feature a large colour TFT display along with a GPS mount and full LED lighting. The left-side switchgear has a dedicated Mode button, hinting at multiple ride modes, while the joystick could be used to navigate through the various display menus.

Hero Xpulse 421 Cruise-Control System

That said, the bigger highlight is the presence of a cruise control system, which is evident from the dedicated button on the right-side switch cube. This feature should improve the touring credentials of the Xpulse 421. Besides these features, we can also expect the bike to get switchable ABS and traction control, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Cycle Parts

As can be seen from the spy pictures, the Xpulse 421 will feature a long-travel suspension setup with upside-down front forks and a linkage-type rear monoshock. The motorcycle also appears to be riding on a 21/18-inch tube-type spoke wheel setup, wrapped in dual-purpose Metzeler Tourance tyres. However, we do hope Hero MotoCorp offers a tubeless spoke wheels as an option. Meanwhile, the braking hardware includes single disc at both ends with a radially-mounted four-piston ByBre calliper at the front and a single-piston calliper at the back.

Engine and Underpinnings

Powering the Hero Xpulse 421 will be an all-new, in-house developed 421cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Hero had been facing challenges with the design and development of this new engine, which has been the primary reason for the bike’s delayed launch. That said, the test mule seems to be closer to production, hinting at the engine finally being in advanced stages of testing.

While it’s too early to speculate about its power figures, what we do know is that the engine will be nestled inside a steel trellis frame, with the engine acting as the stressed member. The motorcycle will also get a separate sub-frame and what appears to be a box-type swingarm.

Launch Timeline and Competition

We expect Hero MotoCorp to showcase the production version at this year’s EICMA trade show in Milan, Italy, with a market launch in early 2027. Once launched, the Xpulse 421 will rival the KTM 390 Adventure S, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, and the BMW F 450 GS.
