About Mercedes-Benz GLA
Summary
Mercedes-Benz has introduced the latest updated iteration of the GLA crossover in India. Showcased previously at the 2020 Auto Expo, the entry-level SUV from the German carmaker is finally here. It has grown in size, gets revamped interiors with modern connected tech, and two powertrains to choose from.
Exterior
On the outside, the new GLA has increased proportions. The front fascia wears the new family face of a single piece grille with horizontal slat holding the big star at the centre. Depending upon the variant one chooses, the design of the front bumper differs slightly in design. It runs on 18-inch wheels. The slightly protruding wheel arches give the GLA an SUV stance that further complement the square plastic cladding that extends till the rear bumper. The tail lamps are similar to those seen on the new GLE SUV that taper towards the powered tailgate. The chrome element at the bottom of the rear bumper completes the appealing look of the SUV.
Interior
Inside, the GLA gets the now familiar two-screen setup on the dashboard. The seats are new as well and can be had with beige and black upholstery with open walnut finish on the central portion of the dashboard. Other notable features include electrically adjustable front seats with memory and lumbar support function, 64-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, an air purifier, wireless charging, and two-zone automatic climate control. The ‘Mercedes Me’ connected car tech enables the driver have access to features such as remote door lock/unlock, vehicle health data, remote engine start/stop, and geo-fencing amongst the many.
Engine
The powertrain options on the new GLA include a 1.3-litre petrol engine that develops 161bhp and 250Nm torque paired to a seven-speed DCT unit. Meanwhile, there is also a more powerful 2.0-litre diesel power plant that generates 188bhp and 400Nm of peak torque with an option of a four-wheel-drive setup. It comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
