A Different Kind Of Buzz: The World’s First Beer-Powered Motorcycle

An American inventor has created what may be the world’s beer-powered motorcycle. What makes this invention even more interesting is the fact that the inventor, Ky Michaelson, is a teetotaler.

Michaelson, a resident of Bloomington, Minnesota in the United States, who has been dubbed the “Rocketman’, has created mad inventions like a rocket-powered toilet to a jet-powered coffee machine in his garage at home.

His latest invention though has left the world buzzing for more. Michaelson’s beer-powered motorcycle replaces the traditional engine with a 14-gallon (53 litres) beer keg that sports a heating coil.

So when the teetotalling inventor cracks open a bottle of beer and feeds this hops-powered homemade motorcycle it immediately heats up the alcohol to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (148.88 degrees Celsius).

The beer is converted into superheated steam by the heating coil inside the keg which is then sent shooting out of its tailpipes. This superheated steam provides enough propulsion to the beer-powered motorcycle to send it hurtling down the road.

Speaking to the new channel, Michaelson stated that the beer-powered motorcycle, which he built in his garage along with his son Buddy, was created as a way to counter rising fuel prices.

Michaelson decided that since he did not drink, the best way to make use of the alcoholic drink was to use it for fuel to power his latest invention.

While he has demonstrated the bike’s capabilities on the interwebs, the inventor hasn’t taken the beer-drinking motorcycle out on the road as of now. Despite this Michaelson has entered the boozy bike into a few local car shows where it has won first place for its hoppy and steamy antics.

Michaelson does plan to take his beer-powered motorcycle to the drag strip sometime soon to put it through its paces. The Rocketman from Minnesota also told the news channel that his beer-drinking, superheated steam-creating bike could hit a top speed of 150 miles/hour (240km/h).

However, after the beer-powered bike does a few demonstration runs, the hoppy motorcycle, which has raised the bar for garage-based inventors around the world looks destined to join Michaelson’s other inventions in his museum at home.

Thoughts: Ky Michaelson’s beer-powered bike may just be the coolest invention using the hoppy liquid we’ve seen to date.

While we wish we could ride his steam-creating beer guzzler, Indian riders will soon get the chance to run their vehicles on a petrol-alcohol mix as E20 fuels are just around the corner.
