Ather has trademarked the ‘450S’ name, not giving the leeway to competitors to use the same nomenclature. This is a smart move done by Ather as it gives them a name that is unique to them.
The Ather 450X electric scooter has been a hit since its launch, thanks to its features, performance, and build quality. However, Ather might introduce the new 450S variant that could be focused on affordability, discarding some of the advanced features found in the 450X Pro Pack model.
While customers may enjoy features like the full-colour TFT touchscreen display, Ather replaced it with a grayscale unit in the standard 450X. Apart from this, features like 4G connectivity, music and calls access, guide-me-home light and hill assist might be disregarded in the 450S model as it’s not considered essential.
It’s likely that the Ather 450S model will have a tubular frame instead of the aluminium space frame found in the 450X. It may also feature a smaller battery pack and a less powerful motor. By making these changes, Ather can offer the 450S at a more affordable price point.
The 450S is expected to be priced at less than Rs 1.5 lakh, making it more affordable to customers than the current 450X and 450X Pro Pack models, which are priced at Rs 1,71,879.
While the new variant may not have a lot of funky features, it could target those on a limited budget who are looking for a practical and affordable alternative to regular ICE-based scooters.
