BMW’s New Himalayan 450 And 390 Adventure Rival Spotted On Test In India

It’s no news that Motorrad is planning to roll out a fresh adventure two-wheeler in the India market which will be BMW’s new entry point in the segment. While previously the G 310 GS served as the entry-level BMW ADV in the country, it has now been pulled off the shelves to make way for a new, and more capable adventure bike that go more aggressively against the competition bikes such as the 450. BMW has also started testing its upcoming F 450 GS ADV on the Indian roads which has now been caught behind the camera lenses offering more details on its production-spec avatar.

For the record, the F 450 GS was first displayed officially in the concept form at the EICMA 2024 and then also made its way to the Bharat Mobility Expo last year. Now the latest spy images hint at slightly bigger dimensions than the G 310 GS, however, all other major details have been smartly hidden underneath camouflage.

The front design of the motorcycle, featuring a beak-like fender and a single headlamp, closely resembles that of the original concept model. However, the test prototype appears to incorporate a taller windscreen compared to what was previously displayed. It remains unclear whether this will be offered as a standard component or as an optional accessory.

A key visual deviation from the concept is the replacement of cross-spoke wheels with alloy wheels (with Eurogrip Duratrail EB+ tyres), which are identical to those found on the BMW G 310 GS. Additionally, both test models seem to be outfitted with luggage attachments. Interestingly, while one prototype includes handguards, the other does not.

The bike will use an all-new 450cc, parallel-twin engine which is liquid-cooled and develops 48bhp and nearly 45Nm of peak torque. As per BMW, the powertrain features an offset ignition which contributes significantly to the character and engine performance. BMW also says that it has used lighter materials like magnesium to make the motor lightweight.
