About BMW 5 Series
Summary
Nearly a year after its global debut, BMW has launched the 5 Series facelift in India. The refreshed luxury sedan is locally-assembled by the carmaker and is available in three trims – 530i M Sport, 520d Luxury Line, and 530d M Sport.
Exterior
Appearance-wise, the 5 Series carries forward the same exterior design as the previous model. However, subtle tweaks like the revised front grille give it a more aggressive and sharper look. The LED headlights also get a new design with integrated dual L-shaped daytime running lights. The LED tail lamps too, look modern with the split L-shaped design and smoked effect. This is further complemented by the blacked-out centre on the rear bumper with a touch of chrome. It also gets 18-inch alloy wheels with designs varying upon the trims.
Interior
Inside, the cabin resembles the outgoing model with a larger free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and leather upholstery. The updates are in the form of the latest iDrive 7 operating system powering the multimedia unit. The 530i M Sport gets the perforated Sensatec upholstery while the 520d Luxury Line offers Dakota leather and the top-spec 530d gets the more premium Nappa leather with diamond stitching. Other notable features include ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, an electric sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree camera, and a display key.
Engine and Transmission
Under the long bonnet, the 5 Series facelift is available with three powertrain options. The 2.0-litre petrol engine puts out 248bhp/350Nm torque, the 2.0-litre oil burner is tuned to produce 188bhp/400Nm torque and then there is the potent 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel motor that churns out 261bhp and 620Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is a standard across the range.
