About Maserati Ghibli
Summary
Maserati launched the new and updated 2018 Ghibli sedan in India priced between Rs 1.33-1.42 crores (ex-showroom). The Ghibli is the second four-door sedan in the Maserati line-up and is available with only a diesel powertrain across three variants. It is positioned below the flagship Quattroporte and comes loaded with all the tech and creature comfort expected in a sedan from Modena. The Ghibli comes as an expensive Italian alternative to the Luxo-barges like the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8
Exterior
The new 2018 Ghibli gets a subtle styling update which can be seen on the fascia. The iconic Maserati grille is now done in chrome and there are additional chrome inserts on the bumper vents. The front bumper is tweaked a bit but the rear bumper gets a blink-and-miss update. Apart from the styling update, the GranLusso introduces features such as adaptive full-LED headlights with glare-free ‘matrix high-beam’. Maserati has also fitted the new GranLusso Ghibli with new ADAS (active driver assistance systems). Maserati claims that the design tweaks have also contributed to a substantial improvement in the aerodynamic efficiency (up to 7 per cent) meanwhile the drag coefficient is reduced to 0.29.
Interior
The electric power steering (EPS) is standard which makes it more modern in terms of driver’s comfort. Additionally, now standard for India is the Skyhook suspension system. The new Ghibli has also adopted the Integrated Vehicle Control system (IVC), which helps to prevent vehicle instability, providing enhanced active safety, improved driving dynamics and better performance. The trims – Standard, GranLusso and GranSport – get a unique treatment exclusive to Maserati. For instance, in the GranLusso there is an Ermenegildo Zegna silk upholstery. On the other hand, the GranSport gets sporty exterior and interior touches. Being a Maserati, the Ghibli gets a host of configurable options including stitching, headliner material, wheels, and upholstery.
Engin & Transmission
Under the sculpted hood is Maserati’s first diesel motor, a 3.0-litre V6 compliant with Euro 6 standards. The motor punches out 275bhp of power and a colossal 600Nm of torque between 2,000 and 2,600rpm. The sedan can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 6.3 seconds and onto a top speed of 250kmph. The 70-litre fuel tank boasts of a range of 1,000 kilometres, claims the Italian carmaker, making the Ghibli a capable grand tourer.
