Dibrugarh restricts heavy vehicle entry during peak hours

Dibrugarh: The Dibrugarh district administration on Wednesday imposed time-bound restrictions on the entry of heavy vehicles into the town area in a move to decongest roads and ensure smoother traffic flow.
The decision, taken during the district road safety committee (DRSC) meeting, aims to streamline traffic movement during peak hours and enhance public convenience.
According to a notification issued by the sub-divisional officer (Sadar), Dibrugarh, Magonjoy Thaosen, trucks, trailers and other commercial vehicles will be barred from entering the town between 7am to 10am and 12pm to 3pm daily.
Violators will face strict action under relevant traffic laws.

Traffic police have been directed to strictly monitor compliance, while checkpoints will be set up at key entry points.
Dibrugarh district commissioner Bikram Kairi, who chaired the DRSC meeting, said restrictions were necessary to prioritise commuter safety and reduce bottlenecks.
“The growing number of heavy vehicles during peak hours have been a major concern. This step will ensure smoother movement for school buses, office-goers and emergency vehicles,” he said.
“The time slots correspond to the busiest periods of daily traffic, when school children, office workers and local residents are most active on the roads,” he added.
