Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Ananya Mittal has asked the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to take effective preventive measures to control road accidents on the NH-33. The DC has also directed NHAI to install barricading at the vulnerable accident points and set-up blinkers at the connecting roads on the highway.
Further, direction have also been issued to put up barriers at the identified spots to check over-speeding on the highway, and, launch a drive against the unauthorised parking of heavy commercial vehicles on the roadside of the highway.
Chairing the meeting of the district transport and road safety (DTRS) committee meeting on Tuesday, the DC asked the NHAI to take road transport safety measures in totality so that lives of people and the property is saved.
SSP, Kishore Kaushal, who jointly chaired the meeting, informed that district police in its survey has identified nine spots on the Paridih-Baharagora stretch of the highway where accidents regularly occur.
“The police will share the details of the identified spots with the NHAI for taking the corrective measures,” he said.
In the urban circle, the administration has asked the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Tata Steel and traffic police to conduct joint surveys at Jemco chowk, Domuhani roundabout and at MGM chowk for ensuring proper parking of heavy vehicles.
Besides, dangerous street curves will be examined by the traffic, transport and NHAI officials for correction in the design to prevent accidents. The DC and SSP have said that CII Young Indians volunteers will be roped in for conducting road safety awareness among heavy vehicle drivers to ensure safe driving on the highway and on city roads.
