H-D authorities take measures to reduce traffic congestion near Janata Bazar market

Hubballi: The Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissionerate and Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) joined hands to streamline traffic movement on the roads near Janata Bazar market. Both departments issued strict directions to shopowners to avoid parking vehicles on the roadsides. They have been instructed to park vehicles at the underground parking provision in the newly constructed Janata Bazar market complex under the Smart City programme.
The HDMC commissioner and DCP crime and traffic also held discussions with local shop proprietors in the market vicinity, directing them to ensure vehicles are not parked along the roadsides. The authorities observed increasing traffic congestion in the market area due to haphazard parking. The new underground parking facility at the newly constructed Janata Bazar market can accommodate numerous vehicles and aims to curb roadside parking. Shopowners were advised to inform their customers about the parking facility.
The HDMC also deployed two security personnel at the Janata Bazar market building to guide vehicles to the designated parking area. Local police will monitor the area regularly to ensure compliance with parking rules. Vehicles found parked illegally on roadsides will face penalties. The authorities gave shopowners a grace period to adapt to the new parking system.
“The Smart City initiative includes plans to install smart parking management systems in the underground facility. Signboards need to be installed to direct motorists to the underground parking,” said social activist Umesh D. “Periodic consultations between officials and merchants will facilitate ongoing resolution of issues and ensure effective execution. The administration aims to establish a structured parking arrangement that serves both customers and traders while alleviating traffic bottlenecks in the commercial district,” he further said.

The initiative received a positive response from many shopowners who understand the importance of streamlined traffic movement. The authorities hope this model can be replicated in other busy market areas of Hubballi-Dharwad to improve urban mobility.
DCP crime and traffic Raveesh, during his recent inspection of the Janata Bazar market area, instructed shopkeepers to ensure that customers’ vehicles are parked in the underground facility at the new market building. He emphasised that strict enforcement measures would be implemented.
HDMC commissioner Rudresh Ghali said discussions were held with shopkeepers and vendors regarding smooth traffic flow near Janata Bazar. He said strict directives were issued against roadside parking. He noted that the new Janata Bazar market building’s underground parking facility has sufficient space for two-wheelers, with two security personnel already stationed to manage parking arrangements.
