Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India to Expand Production Capacity

  • Honda to set up a third production line at its Tapukara factory
  • Will provide an additional 6.7 lakh units of production capacity

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) is expanding production capacity in India. As part of this expansion, the company is setting up a third production line at its Tapukara plant in Alwar, Rajasthan. This will add 6.7 lakh units per year to production capacity. This new line will be operational by 2028.

With this, the brand will have a total production capacity of 2.01 million units at its Tapukara factory. Honda will purchase 73,700 m² of land in Tapukara for its third manufacturing line, for which it will invest Rs. 15 billion. The brand states that this expansion will generate over 2,000 jobs in the region.

In addition to this, the Japanese manufacturer has also announced plans to increase total production capacity in India to 8 million units annually by FY2028, from its current capacity of 6.25 million units. Honda announced in May 2025 that it will add a fourth production line at its Vithalapur plant in the Ahmedabad district, Gujarat. This production line will be operational by 2027, and the expansion is progressing as planned.

Honda began production in India in 2001, and since then, it has manufactured over 70 million units. With its strong focus on the commuter segment, Honda has captured a significant market share, and its Activa scooter has been the top-selling scooter in India consistently.
