Hyundai Motor India reported total sales of 58,701 units in May 2025, marking a 3.4% decline from April’s figure of 60,774 units. The drop comes as the Indian automotive industry grapples with shifting consumer sentiment, affordability concerns, and planned production shutdowns.

Breaking down the numbers, Hyundai sold 43,861 units in the domestic market and exported 14,840 units in the same month. While domestic sales saw a notable contraction, exports remained steady, underscoring Hyundai’s growing international footprint. The company’s export performance has become a key pillar of its strategy, as it faces increasing volatility at home.

Hyundai’s domestic sales slowdown mirrors a broader market trend. Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, also posted a 5.6% year-on-year decline in domestic passenger vehicle sales in May. Industry analysts attribute the slump to weakening demand in the entry-level segment, which has traditionally been a stronghold for first-time car buyers.
