In a recent incident in Bilmora, Gujarat, a customer who took delivery of their brand-new Hyundai Verna, decided to step out with friends for a night drive to inaugurate the car. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, the driver lost control of the Hyundai Verna and crashed.
The Verna was approaching a bridge when the driver floored it and the car plummeted off the road and fell in a slush pit. The driver supposedly stepped on the accelerator instead of brakes which led to this accident taking place.
The car landed upside-down into a dried up river-bed that was filled with slush, luckily. The slush would have reduced the impact of the fall significantly, and the absence of water would have made the fall ‘safer’.
Luckily, due to a quick rescue operation, a crane managed to pull the car away from the sludge and put the car back on its wheels. All three people in the Verna walked away from the incident unharmed.
The Hyundai Verna, surprisingly, came out of the scene with only minor damage. All 4 pillars of the car were intact and parts of the body. The only main damage was to the roof of the car which had caved in and the driver’s side door had moved inwards.
The new Hyundai Verna comes with a host of safety features as standard, such as 6 airbags, three point seatbelts, seat-belt sensors, auto-locking doors, impact sensing auto-unlocking doors, ABS, Emergency Stop Signal, and others. The airbags and seatbelts would have drastically helped in keeping the occupants safe.
In the top-end trims of the Hyundai Verna, the safety net includes ESC, hill-start assist, TPMS, disc brakes, ADAS and others. For ADAS, features include forward collision warning, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, smart cruise control, and more.
The Hyundai Verna crash is a sign for all the drivers out there to always remain attentive of the road ahead and to stay within their skill level. Pushing beyond what we can do will end us up in an unwanted situation.
The Hyundai Verna proved to be a safe car with this incident. In spite of falling off a bridge on the roof, the structural damage was minimal and only cosmetic damages were visible. The occupants in the car walking out unharmed shows another aspect of safety that Hyundai has looked into.
