Iconic Kinetic Honda ZX Coming Back As An EV? Company Files Design Patent In India

Kinetic Group appears poised for a nostalgic comeback with a modern twist, as the company has filed a new design patent in India for a scooter that closely resembles the iconic Kinetic Honda ZX. The patent image showcases a retro-styled scooter that takes clear design cues from the original ZX model: a popular two-wheeler from the 1990s. While the silhouette remains faithful to the original, the design incorporates several modern elements, hinting at a contemporary electric scooter offering.

Key styling elements such as the front fender and apron remain unmistakably inspired by the old Kinetic Honda ZX, albeit with updated contours and a sleeker appearance. The headlamp assembly has been significantly redesigned, now featuring a more streamlined look with an integrated visor bearing the ‘Kinetic’ branding. The side panels retain the classic proportions but appear slimmer and more aerodynamic. Notably, the spare tyre seen in the original has been replaced with a smart-looking grab rail, and the rearview mirrors have been updated for improved aerodynamics.

While the company has not revealed any official details about the scooter’s specifications, the upcoming model is expected to prioritise efficiency and urban practicality over high performance. The performance metrics could be comparable to those of a typical 110cc petrol-powered scooter.

The model, once launched, is likely to compete in the crowded electric scooter segment, going up against the likes of the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Ather Rizta, and Ola S1 X. Kinetic has not announced a launch timeline or confirmed whether this design will make it to production. However, the filing of this patent signals the company’s intent to return to the mainstream electric two-wheeler market with a nostalgic, design-driven offering.
