Kargil Vijay Diwas, celebrated annually on July 26, marks the victorious end of the Kargil War between India and Pakistan in 1999. We celebrate this day to honor the courage and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces, who displayed unparalleled courage and determination.
As a homage to the brave soldiers, 25 women riders representing the Indian Army have begun a seven-day road trip from New Delhi to Dras on TVS Ronin motorcycles. This ride commemorates the 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The all-women motorcycle rally was flagged off on July 18 from the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The rally will cover a total distance of 1,000km before it reaches its final destination, Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh, on the 25th or 26th of July.
During the ride, the group will travel through the plains of Haryana and Punjab and the challenging mountains of Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh before finally arriving at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras.
At the final destination, Kargil War Memorial, they will pay tribute and celebrate the 24th anniversary of India’s triumph in 1999. Along with that, they’ll also celebrate the spirit of women serving in the Indian Army.
The ride was flagged off by Gen. Manoj Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC Chief of Army Staff, and Archana Pande, Chairperson of the Army Wives Welfare Association, accompanied by Vimal Sumbly, Head Business – Premium at TVS Motor Company.
The Nari Sashaktikaran Women Motorcycle Rally is organised with the support of Headquarters Northern Command. The ride is in collaboration with the automaker TVS, which has provided the riders with all-new Ronin motorcycles for the event.
“The Nari Shakti ride… pays tribute to the brave women who serve in the Indian Army. We are honoured to be a part of this momentous journey with them as they ride the TVS Ronin as their choice of ride,” said Vimal Sumbly.
The TVS Ronin is powered by a 5-speed 225.9cc oil-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke, four-valve, SOHC engine that produces 20bhp of power and 20Nm of peak torque. The bike has a USD fork suspension in front and an adjustable mono-shock in the rear.
Earlier, the Indian Navy had partnered with TVS to celebrate 76 years of India’s independence. A group of 34 riders from the Indian Naval Forces embarked on this 5,600km journey from New Delhi to Ladakh.
The Indian Army’s all-women ride showcases our female soldiers’ indomitable spirit and dedication. The partnership with TVS is a wonderful initiative, as the ride also shows the capabilities of an Indian-made motorcycle.
