The Indian Army has placed a new bulk order for the Mahindra Scorpio Classic SUV. The Army requested for an additional 1,850 units to be manufactured. In January of this year, the Indian Army initially placed an order for 1,470 units of the Scorpio.
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is said to replace the Army’s go-to vehicle, the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. The first batch that was ordered in January came with Mahindra’s older logo and basic 4WD. The newer batch will be predominantly the same, but might come with Mahindra’s updated logo.
Mahindra shared an image of the Scorpio Classic SUVs that are set to be shipped to the Army. We can see a bunch of the Scorpios in a dark-ish Green shade with fog lamps, side steps, roof rails, and alloy wheels.
To enhance safety, the Mahindra Scorpios come with a black plastic covering above the tail lights on either side of the car. This panel will provide an extra layer of protection to the body of the car, making it suitable for rough use.
Mahindra has kept the power figures of the Scorpio Classic quiet, but being the older gen model, we can assume the SUV gets the old 2.2-litre diesel engine which produces 138.6bhp and mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The current Scorpio Classic also gets a 2.2-litre diesel engine, but produces 128.7bhp.
It’s not only the Army that has requested for vehicles, the Air Force has done so, too. The IAF requested Tata for some of their EVs to be a part of their fleet, acquiring 12 Nexon EVs as theirs.
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is a great pick for the Indian Army as the Scorpio boasts a rugged stance and tough looks. The Scorpio is also a tough vehicle that can challenge almost any terrain and come out on top. Also, the Scorpio being a Mahindra build is quite reliable and maintenance of the SUV isn’t too expensive.
