JIND: Taking s stern step to maintain peace in the city, Jind Police seized and destroyed modified silencers fitted to 54 bullet motorcycles using a road roller. Since 2024, the police have collected approximately Rs 9,07,000 in fines from challans issued to motorcycles fitted with such “cracker” silencers. These modified silencers produce extremely loud noises, causing immense inconvenience to the public. Police officials have sent a strong message to the youth that strict action will be taken against anyone installing such silencers, said Amit Kumar, police spokesperson.
These types of silencers not only cause noise pollution but also pose risks to heart patients. Drivers nearby may panic, mistaking the loud burst for gunfire, which has led to several accidents in the past, he added.
Traffic Station In-Charge Shamsher Singh informed that the traffic police seized about 54 modified silencers from Bullet motorcycles in and around Jind city, which were later destroyed using a road roller. Initially, challans were issued, and the motorcycles were impounded. When the owners came to retrieve their vehicles after paying the fines, they were instructed to replace the modified silencers with the company-fitted original ones. Only after complying with this were the motorcycles handed back. Around Rs 9.07 lakh was deposited in government revenue through these challans. Additionally, over 50 Bullet motorcycles have been seized in Narwana and Safidon blocks, whose silencers will also be destroyed soon.
He further mentioned that uniform regulations have now been implemented for auto drivers in the city. Currently, 25-30% of auto drivers are wearing uniforms while operating. Other commercial vehicle drivers have also been instructed to follow similar guidelines. The police will continue to take strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act against those violating traffic rules, he said.
