Maruti Suzuki has commenced the exports of the made-in-India Jimny 5-door to Japan. The compact off-roader was unveiled in Japan today. It is exclusively made in the Maruti Suzuki Gurugram plant and is currently being exported to nearly 100 countries, of which Japan is now a part. In FY2024-25, the 4×4 SUV was Maruti’s second most exported model from India.

The Jimny 5-door joins the Fronx as Maruti’s second car to be exported to Japan. Maruti Suzuki hasn’t mentioned if the Japanese-spec Jimny 5-door will have any mechanical difference compared to the India-spec version. The SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 103 hp and 134 Nm of peak torque. Customers can choose between a 5-speed manual or a four-speed torque converter automatic.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The introduction of ‘Made in India’ Jimny 5-door in Japan is a testament to the global level of excellence in our manufacturing capability. It is our second model to be exported to Japan in this fiscal year (FY 2024-25) after Fronx in August 2024. Jimny is the second most exported Maruti Suzuki car in FY 2024-25. After its resounding success in markets like Mexico, Australia, and South Africa, we are confident that it will delight customers in Japan. The export of Jimny reaffirms our commitment towards ‘Make-in-India for the world’.”
