Maruti e-Vitara vs Toyota Ebella: Price, range, features and key differences explained

Maruti Suzuki has introduced its new electric SUV, the e-Vitara, in India. This vehicle enters a market with existing electric SUVs like the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Creta EV. The e-Vitara and the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella are the first electric vehicles developed together by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota.

What’s New?
The e-Vitara and Ebella share a common platform and parts but have different designs and branding.

Price and Options
The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is available in three versions: Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. It offers two battery choices: 49 kWh and 60 kWh. The Delta model with the 49 kWh battery costs Rs 15.99 lakh. The Zeta and Alpha models with the 60 kWh battery are priced at Rs 17.49 lakh and Rs 19.79 lakh, respectively. A dual-tone paint option for the Alpha variant adds Rs 22,000. Maruti is also including a free 7.4 kW AC charger with installation. An option called Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) reduces the initial cost to Rs 10.99 lakh, with a per-kilometer charge for battery use. Customers also receive free charging at Maruti dealerships for up to 1,000 units or one year.

Toyota has not yet released prices for the Ebella, but it is expected to be priced higher than the e-Vitara. Bookings for the Ebella are open for Rs 25,000.

Warranty and Ownership
Maruti Suzuki offers an 8-year or 1,60,000 km warranty on the e-Vitara’s battery and a 3-year vehicle warranty. Extended warranties up to 5 years are available. The company guarantees 60% value retention after three years or 45,000 km, and 50% after four years or 60,000 km. Toyota also provides an 8-year battery warranty and a similar buyback assurance for the Ebella.

Design Differences
The e-Vitara comes in 10 colors, with dual-tone roof options. The Ebella offers single and dual-tone combinations. While the sides and rear of both SUVs are similar, the front designs differ. The e-Vitara has Y-shaped LED daytime running lights, a different bumper, and fog lamps. The Ebella features a cleaner bumper, distinct DRL styling, and no fog lights. Both models have hidden rear door handles and similar rear styling.

Interior and Features
The cabins of both SUVs are nearly the same, featuring a dual-screen setup, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a brown-and-black interior theme. Key features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a JBL sound system, and ambient lighting.

Safety equipment includes seven airbags, ABS, ESP, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS technologies like adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist.

Battery, Performance, and Range
Both models use 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs from BYD. The smaller battery provides 144 hp, and the larger one offers 174 hp. Torque is 189 Nm for both. The driving range is up to 440 km with the smaller battery and up to 543 km with the larger battery.

The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara and Toyota Ebella share the same engineering but differ in styling, branding, and expected pricing, offering consumers more choices.
