High-end premium electric vehicle brand Denza, operated by BYD, has officially confirmed its entry into the Indian market on November 13, 2026. Originally established in 2010 as a fifty-fifty joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, the luxury marque is now under the complete control of BYD. In India, Denza products will lock horns with offerings from established European luxury marques like Mercedes, BMW, and Audi, alongside upcoming models from Genesis and Avinya.

Import Route and Dedicated Showroom Network

Denza aims to carve out a space in the domestic luxury electric vehicle segment spanning from Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore. The initial batch of vehicles will reach the country as Completely Built Units, making use of the 2,500-unit homologation exemption quota. Local assembly may be evaluated subsequently based on market demand. The brand's product roadmap, retail strategy, and dealership layout for India could be disclosed on the debut date.

Although Denza functions as a fully owned subsidiary of BYD, it will operate through exclusive retail outlets. BYD intends to set up separate, high-end Denza showrooms across key Tier-1 and Tier-2 urban centres across the country. The dealership network will scale up progressively, guided by consumer demand and market feedback.

Denza D9 Luxury Electric MPV Overview

The inaugural offering from Denza for India is expected to be the D9 7-seater electric MPV, which will compete against the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, MG M9, Lexus LM, and Toyota Vellfire. Dimensionally, the Denza D9 spans 5,250 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and roughly 1,920 mm in height, built upon a 3,110 mm wheelbase. Its exterior design merges a modern aesthetic with the signature Pi-Motion grille, a full-width rear tail lamp bar, bidirectional powered sliding doors, soft-close doors, an expansive panoramic sunroof, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside the cabin, the D9 provides a lounge-like ambience furnished with high-grade Nappa leather, open-pore wood accents, and ambient illumination. The second row features Air Spa zero-gravity captain chairs that offer up to 14 ways of electric adjustment, leg rests, heating, ventilation, a 16-point massage function, and a recline angle reaching 152 degrees. The dashboard houses a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a passenger-side display, and optional rear entertainment screens. While global markets receive both plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions, India is slated to get solely the EV variant, potentially equipped with a 103-115 kWh Blade battery and global options for front- and all-wheel-drive layouts delivering up to 800 km of range.

Styled under Wolfgang Egger’s design signature, it features a stretched profile with dual-bar headlamps, active aero elements, a large rear diffuser, and distinctive tail lamps, alongside hardware such as rear-wheel steering and a crab-walk function. The cabin incorporates soft Nappa leather, a 17.3-inch floating central touchscreen, dual 13.2-inch displays for the driver and front passenger, a 50-inch AR head-up display, and optional digital side-mirror screens.

Implications for Luxury EV Buyers

For prospective buyers in the upper echelons of the Indian automotive market, Denza's arrival introduces advanced electric powertrains and high-end features traditionally found in ultra-luxury vehicles. The choice to bring vehicles via the CBU route initially ensures access to global specifications, while the establishment of dedicated showrooms signals a commitment to tailored customer experiences in the high-end segment.
