JSW Group is entering the Indian car market independently through a new entity named JSW Motors, following a joint venture formed three years prior with China's SAIC Motor. The newly formed enterprise intends to introduce three electrified SUVs in rapid succession culminating by the close of 2027. All three electrified models are anticipated to be brought into the country as knocked-down kits sourced from China, with final assembly scheduled to take place at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar located in Maharashtra.
JSW Combat Plug-in Hybrid SUV
On December 4, JSW Motors is scheduled to debut its inaugural offering, a D-segment plug-in hybrid SUV titled the Combat. Based on a previous iteration of the Jetour Traveller C-DM from Chinese manufacturer Chery, the vehicle boasts an angular and robust aesthetic that projects the rugged stance of body-on-frame sport utility vehicles. JSW Motors is expected to preserve the core styling while altering softer components including the grilles, bumpers, and wheels, with interior modifications anticipated to be minimal.
The Indian specification will likely utilise a front-wheel-drive setup combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a pair of electric motors delivering 265 kW (355 hp) alongside 610 Nm of torque. An 18.4 kWh LFP battery unit will feed energy to the motors, granting an emission-free distance capability exceeding 100 kilometres. Despite its substantial dimensions, the JSW Combat will be configured strictly as a five-seater and will contend against the Skoda Kodiaq, VW Tayron, Kia Sorento, Toyota Fortuner, and MG Majestor.
JSW J5 Electric SUV
The second vehicle from JSW Motors is slated for introduction in January 2027 as a more economically accessible offering. Derived from the internationally marketed Chery Jaecoo J5, which features petrol, petrol-electric hybrid, and purely electric configurations abroad, the JSW iteration will be distributed exclusively as an electric vehicle. This model is projected to span approximately 4.38 metres in length, 1.65 metres in width, and 1.86 metres in height, featuring a wheelbase spanning roughly 2.62 metres.
Propulsion will likely be handled by a single front-mounted motor generating 155 kW (208 hp) and 288 Nm of torque. A 60.93 kWh LFP battery pack is expected to feed power to this motor, yielding an estimated operational distance of around 500 kilometres on a single charge.
JSW V23 Retro-Style EV
The third vehicle in the lineup is expected to be a derivative of Chery's iCar V23, representing a retro-styled, angular SUV that is more compact than the JSm J5. While global markets offer this vehicle solely as an electric vehicle in single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, the specific drivetrain layout destined for the domestic market remains unconfirmed. The V23-based electric vehicle is projected to measure roughly 4.22 metres long, 1.92 metres wide, and 1.84 metres tall, underpinned by a wheelbase of approximately 2.73 metres.
JSW Motors could potentially release this third offering during the second half of 2027, marketing it as a competitor to the Tata Sierra.ev. The overall strategy underscores the brand's rapid expansion into the domestic clean-energy utility vehicle segment using adapted Chinese architectures.
