Notices to buildings in JSR for flouting parking norms

Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) on Tuesday issued notices to the owners of 15 buildings in SNP Area in Sakchi for flouting basement parking rules and asked them to restore the space for parking within two-weeks, its officials said on Wednesday.
JNAC officials uncovered that most of the buildings in SNP Area had converted their parking spaces for commercial use.
Others were found using the space as security rooms and storing heavy generator sets.
With parking space being used for purposes other than intended, people visiting the respective buildings parked their vehicles on the roadside.

The unauthorised parking of bikes and cars on the roadside are inconveniencing motorists, who are left to negotiate with shrunken spaces on the roads.
On March 25, JNAC officials sealed a building in the SNP Area when they found that the ground floor of the structure was being dug to construct a basement in an unauthorised manner.
JNAC deputy municipal commissioner Krishna Kumar said, “JNAC is strict on ensuring compliance with basement parking rules. Building owners must mandatorily adhere to the norms, or the premises which flout the norms would be sealed.”
Further, JNAC said officials will conduct random surveys of high-rise buildings, including both residential and commercial structures, to identify those not complying with the building byelaws.
Incidentally, about 20 commercial buildings within the command limits of the notified committee were sealed in 2023-24 FY for basement parking rules violations.
Notably, several high-rise buildings in Sakchi, Sidhgora, Golmuri, Kadma, Mango, among other places, are flouting the basement rules, with parking space being used for commercial activities.
