Toyota Land Cruiser SUV India Recall Explained

In a voluntary recall campaign, Toyota Kirloskar India has issued a recall for 969 Land Cruiser SUVs in the country for a possible fault in the transmission software. While no malfunction cases have been recorded in India up till now, the carmaker has issued a preemptive notification for existing customers of the flagship SUV. The recall applies to vehicles manufactured between September 4, 2024, and September 30, 2025. Toyota has issued the recall for 969 Land Cruiser SUVs for a possible fault in the Transmission Control Computer (TCC) software. It is responsible for controlling the Land Cruiser’s 10-speed automatic transmission’s performance. While Toyota has not shared any further details on the fault, the list of possible risks due to faulty software includes over-revving, fluid leak, or more severe transmission damage over time.

In terms of executing the recall, Toyota has confirmed that local dealership personnel will contact customers regarding the software update. Customers can also enquire about their vehicle by directly contacting the service centres if their Land Cruiser SUV has been manufactured between September 4, 2024, and September 30, 2025.

The current generation Land Cruiser 300 SUV that is sold in India gets a 3.3-litre V6 diesel engine and comes paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Being a flagship off-roader, it gets 4×4 drive and sophisticated equipment and features such as rear limited-slip differential, front and rear differential locks, crawl control, multi-terrain modes, active traction control and more. The transmission software issue has also affected Lexus LX SUVs manufactured between March 6, 2025, and September 29, 2025. Lexus India has issued a voluntary recall notification for customers of 117 cars accordingly. Similar to the Land Cruiser, Lexus LX models have not yet reported any transmission issues up till now. Customers who have SUVs manufactured between the above mentioned dates can expect to be contacted by the dealership or get in touch with authorised service points directly.
