Police launch search after jeweller robbed in city

Jaipur: A day after a jeweller was attacked and robbed of 10kg of silver and Rs 20,000 in cash in Pratap Nagar area, police teams Sunday questioned several suspects and launched search operations across neighbouring districts. However, no breakthrough was achieved till late evening.The incident took place around 9:15pm on Saturday when Chandra Prakash Soni, who owns Shubham Jewellers in Sector 26, was returning home after closing his shop. As he reached near Prem Mandir, a black Scorpio car rammed into his motorcycle from behind. He was assaulted and the robbers fled with his bag containing the valuables.Soni sustained minor injuries and filed a complaint at Pratap Nagar police station shortly after the incident. A case was registered and a city-wide alert issued.Sources told TOI that the incident appeared to be a well-planned robbery. “The assailants were likely tracking the victim’s routine. Their use of a car and the timing of the attack indicate prior surveillance,” said an officer.Search teams were dispatched to nearby districts and villages on the outskirts of the city after preliminary inputs hinted that the suspects may have taken escape routes heading towards those districts.

Simultaneously, CCTV footage from around the crime scene and nearby roads is being analysed to trace the vehicle’s movement.Police sources said several people were questioned by Sunday afternoon. “We are checking for known offenders in the area and also scanning vehicle registration data of similar Scorpios. Informants have also been activated,” said a senior officer.The incident triggered concern among local shopkeepers, with many demanding tighter night-time patrolling in commercial zones.
