Gurgaon: Prime Minister Modi virtually inaugurated the Rs 700 crore Rewari-Bawal bypass section, aimed at decongesting Rewari city traffic, from a programme in Hisar.
The 14.3km four-lane road, an extension of NH-11 that connects Bambad village on NH-11 with Harinagar in Narnaul, was constructed by NHAI for Rs 1,069 crore, under the Bharatmala scheme. It will help Gurgaon residents travelling to Narnaul.
Bharatmala is a highways project sponsored and funded by the Centre, aimed at providing connectivity to the far-flung border and rural areas.
Then chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced the construction of the road in 2015. In 2018, land from 1,274 farmers in 18 villages was acquired for the same.

Work on the project started in 2020 and was expected to be complete by the end of 2022, but was delayed.
With the completion of the road, now commercial vehicles will be able to bypass Rewari city. At present, commercial vehicles pass through the city’s roads, triggering congestion.
Gurgaon MP and union minister Rao Inderjit Singh said the concept of the bypass was envisioned nine years ago. “Despite facing numerous political obstacles in the construction of this bypass under the Bharatmala project, we persevered. Some political opponents believed there was no need for such a bypass in Rewari,” said Singh.
Singh added that he pursued the construction of the bypass with union minister of road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari and commissioned a survey from an agency like RITES for the bypass construction. “The RITES survey found a pressing need for a new outer bypass to manage the heavy traffic passing through Rewari city and to prepare for future demands,” said Singh.
