Ludhiana: Owners of small commercial vehicles, under the aegis of United Trade Union, Punjab, held a protest in Khanna area near Ludhiana Delhi National Highway, demanding action against ‘jugaru rehras’ (modified two-wheelers with cart fitted behind).
As the protesters tried to block the highway, police swung into action. Later, the protest was held on the slip road for two hours.. The protesters submitted a memorandum.
Khanna union president Harjinder Singh alleged that the illegal vehicles were causing huge losses to those who buy commercial vehicles by spending lakhs, pay taxes, besides taking permits but suffer due to modified vehicles. He said that the authorities had assured them of a drive against ‘jugaru rehras’. tnn
