This New Electric SUV Could Be BYD’s Answer To The Creta EV; Goes 520 Km On One Charge

BYD has introduced its latest all-electric SUV, the Sealion 05 EV, marking the company’s eighth electric vehicle in the segment. Set to launch in China on March 25, the Sealion 05 EV distinguishes itself from its plug-in hybrid predecessor, which is already available in select international markets. Despite sharing a name, the electric version features distinct styling and dimensions.

This new SUV measures 4,520mm in length, 1,860mm in width, and 1,630mm in height, making it smaller than the hybrid model. However, it offers a longer wheelbase of 2,720mm, a detail highlighted by its design, which includes a floating roof effect created by a blacked-out D-pillar. The exterior boasts striking features such as a connected LED headlight setup similar to the Atto 3, a prominent air dam, and a rear light bar with an illuminated BYD logo.

BYD Sealion 05 EV: Battery, Range, And Performance

Performance-wise, the Sealion 05 EV employs a rear-wheel-drive layout powered by a single motor. Two battery options will be available: a 50kWh version with 188hp and a claimed range of 430 km, and a more powerful 60.9kWh pack that delivers 214hp and a range of 520km. Both variants are electronically limited to a top speed of 180kph.

BYD hasn’t confirmed Sealion 05’s India launch. However, if this EV arrives in India, it could be an alternative to the Creta EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVitara.
