Traffic movement suspended after gas leaks from tanker

Jamshedpur: A leakage of a propylene gas from a moving tanker on the highway prompted the East Singhbhum district administration to take immediate safety measures on Tuesday.Soon after the information reached the officials DC, Karn Satyarthi, ordered imposition of prohibitory orders and cordoned off the area. The administration banned the movement of vehicles on either side of the road where the tanker is stranded. The tanker onwards Odisha reported leakage about 500 meters from Bela chowk on Baharagora-Baripada National Highway in Jamsol under Baharagora police station limits.The administration banned the movement of the vehicles on either end half a km from the spot besides the people have been stopped from going close to the tanker. Further, the officials disseminated information in the surrounding villages and appealed to the villagers not to use inflammable items for the time being. The villagers have been advised to stay from the rumours.A team of experts are deployed at the site to contain the leakage of the gas and bring the situation under control.No untoward incident has been reported due to the leakage of the gas.The Baharagora police station in-charge said in the evening that the officials are at the site engaged in controlling the leakage.

“It will take a couple of hours to get through,” said OC Shankar Kushwaha.Meanwhile, the traffic on the highway is stranded. Till a long distance the heavy commercial vehicles are parked on the either side of the road waiting for the restrictions to be lifted. “The smaller vehicles are routed through the branch lines from the surrounding villages but heavy vehicles are stopped,” Kushwaha said.
