TVS Orbiter V1 Scooter Launched Under Rs 50,000? New Battery Subscription And Rental Explained

TVS Motor Company has expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the TVS Orbiter V1. The new scooter is positioned as the most accessible electric model in the company’s portfolio and aims to make everyday EV commuting more affordable for Indian riders.

The TVS Orbiter V1 has been launched with a starting price of Rs 49,999 (ex-showroom Delhi) when purchased under the company’s newly introduced Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS) model. For customers who prefer to buy the scooter with the battery included, the vehicle is priced at Rs 84,500 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS)

One of the biggest highlights of this launch is the introduction of Battery-As-A-Service across the company’s electric scooter portfolio. Under this system, customers can purchase the scooter without paying the full cost of the battery upfront.

Instead, users can subscribe to the battery through flexible monthly plans starting from Rs 862 per month. This model significantly reduces the initial purchase cost of the vehicle and offers extended battery warranty coverage of up to five years or 70,000 kilometres.

According to TVS Motor, the idea behind BaaS is to make electric vehicles more financially accessible while also helping customers understand their running costs more clearly.

Battery And Charging

The TVS Orbiter V1 is powered by a 1.8 kWh battery pack and is designed primarily for daily urban commuting. The scooter offers a certified IDC range of around 86 kilometres on a single charge. Charging the battery from 0 to 80% takes approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, which makes it convenient for users who charge the scooter at home or at work.

With this launch, the Orbiter lineup now includes two variants – the V1 with a 1.8 kWh battery and the V2 variant with a larger 3.1 kWh battery, which was introduced earlier.

Design

TVS has designed the Orbiter V1 with practicality in mind as the scooter features an 845 mm long flat seat, offering comfortable seating for both rider and passenger. A 290 mm flat footboard provides ample legroom, while the wide upright handlebar helps create a relaxed riding posture. Storage is another strong point. The scooter offers 34 litres of under-seat storage, which is large enough to store two helmets.

Technology And Smart Features

Despite being an affordable scooter, the Orbiter V1 includes several modern features. It comes with a coloured LCD instrument cluster, which can display information such as incoming calls, alerts and ride data. The scooter also connects to a mobile app that allows riders to monitor battery charge levels and vehicle information remotely.

Other technology highlights include crash and fall alerts, anti-theft protection, geo-fencing, turn-by-turn navigation and over-the-air software updates. The scooter also offers Eco and Power ride modes, regenerative braking, cruise control, hill hold assist and parking assist.

Speaking about the launch, company officials highlighted that expanding the EV lineup with a more affordable model is an important step in encouraging more riders to adopt electric mobility.
