VinFast Delays India Launch Plans Amid Distribution Challenges: Report

Vietnamese EV maker VinFast has hit a roadblock in its much-anticipated India debut, as it pushes back the launch of its VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs by a month. According to ET Auto, the models were initially expected to arrive during the festive season, but the company is now targeting a mid-August launch, citing difficulties in setting up a robust distribution network.

The delay is also impacting other aspects of the brand’s rollout in India. Bookings for the VF6 and VF7, which were supposed to open earlier, will now begin in mid-July. Deliveries are expected to start by August 2025, though that timeline may shift further depending on how quickly VinFast can establish its backend operations.

In a move reflecting its recalibrated approach, VinFast has lowered its first-year sales target from earlier projections to 3,000 units. As per ET Auto, the company is focusing on getting the infrastructure right before diving into India’s fiercely competitive EV market.

Production at the company’s upcoming manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, has also been postponed. The factory, originally slated to start operations on June 30, will now begin rolling out vehicles by July 30, further impacting the launch timeline.

VinFast’s India strategy appears to be shifting gears to prioritise long-term stability over a rushed launch. As EV adoption continues to pick up pace in the country, the company’s careful approach may pay off, provided it can build trust and a dependable support system for its early adopters.
