Volkswagen India starts production of Taigun model at Pune plant

on Tuesday announced the commencement of production of the new Taigun model at its manufacturing facility in Pune.

(SAVWIPL) has produced over 143,000 units of the , with around 30 percent of total production exported to markets around the globe.


With the new Taigun model, the company aims to strengthen its SUV portfolio. The start of production of the new underscores the maturity of our world-class manufacturing ecosystem in India, Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO, said, adding that the automaker’s Indian manufacturing facilities are geared to deliver global-quality vehicles with high levels of localization.

This factor, Arora said, enables the company to respond quickly to what customers demand in India and in export markets.

The Taigun is engineered in line with Volkswagen’s global benchmarks and produced in India with a sharp focus on efficiency, quality, and safety. “As we roll out the new Taigun, we are further solidifying India’s position as a strategic production and export base for the Group,” the CEO added.

Since its launch, the Taigun has been instrumental in strengthening the brand’s SUV strategy, Nitin Kohli, Brand Director at Volkswagen India, noted.

“It has played a pivotal role in bolstering our product portfolio for discerning Indian buyers and their aspirations. The new Taigun is central to our strategic plan for the model line-up that will drive meaningful growth. The start of production for the new Taigun at our Chakan facility is a moment of great pride for us,” he added.

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited is headquartered in Pune and oversees the Indian operations of six Volkswagen Group brands, namely Škoda, Volkswagen, , , and .

It operates two manufacturing plants, including Chakan, Pune, with a combined annual capacity of 315,000 units, and plays a key role as an export hub, with over 700,000 vehicles shipped to more than 40+ countries. The automaker’s locally built models, Škoda Kylaq, Kushaq, Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus, have together crossed 575,000 units so far.
