Waiting For Thar Electric 4×4? Mahindra Shares EV Plans For 2026

Mahindra has made its electric vehicle plan for 2026 very clear that there will be no new EV launch this year. The company shared this update during its Q3 FY26 analyst meeting. This does not mean Mahindra is stepping back from electric cars, but it simply means the company has already launched the EVs it had promised and will now focus on selling them in bigger numbers.

This is actually a very important phase for any carmaker as launching a new model creates headlines, but increasing sales and making the product easily available across cities is what makes a vehicle successful. Mahindra now wants to strengthen its current EV line-up and reach more customers instead of adding another new model in 2026.

One of the newest electric SUVs from the brand is the XUV 3XO EV, which was launched in January 2026. It comes with a 39.4kWh battery that produces 147.5bhp and 310Nm torque. In real-world driving, it can go up to 285km on a single charge, which is a practical number for daily city use and weekend travel.

The price starts at Rs 13.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the AX5 variant and goes up to Rs 14.96 lakh for the AX7L variant. This makes it one of the more accessible electric SUVs for Indian buyers who want to switch from petrol or diesel.

Mahindra also said that there are no special supply problems for EVs right now. If there are shortages of parts like semiconductors, they affect both petrol/diesel vehicles and electric vehicles in the same way. So production plans remain stable.

Instead of launching new models, the company’s target is to increase monthly EV sales to 7,000-8,000 units by 2027. That means more than 80,000 electric vehicles a year, which is a big number for the Indian EV market.

For the future, Mahindra has already confirmed a new electric model (codenamed BO7) for 2027. So while 2026 may look quiet in terms of new launches, it is actually a year focused on building strong demand and improving availability.

This strategy is easy to understand as instead of bringing too many new cars, Mahindra wants to make sure the current electric SUVs are seen more on the roads, reach more cities and become a common choice for Indian families.
