20k vehicles over 15 years to be scrapped

Jaipur: The transport department has decided to scrap more than 20,000 commercial vehicles registered with RTO-1 of Jaipur that are more than 15 years old. Officials said Friday that the Rajasthan transport and road safety department decided to initiate a major crackdown against the old commercial vehicles of the city.“According to the plan, we are not going to allow any commercial vehicles without the No-Objection (fitness) certificates. At the same time, we are going to cancel the registration of all vehicles more than 15 years old,” said Rajendra Singh Sekhawat, RTO-1 Jaipur.Officials said, according to an estimate, there are a little over 14K goods vehicles and more than 6K passenger vehicles registered under RTO-1 that are more than 15 years old. “The National Green Tribunal has directed that commercial vehicles can run only for 15 years in the 131 non-attainment cities. Five cities of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, fall in non-attainment category,” said an official. TNN
