5 arrested for stealing iron plates in Kanpur

Kanpur: Police on Wednesday arrested five persons for stealing iron plates from outside a commercial establishment in Govindnagar police station jurisdiction. The police seized 12 plates with a total weight of seven quintals, along with a loader used in the crime and a vehicle employed for surveillance. The arrested suspects were identified as Sushil Giri of Barra-8, Umesh Giri and Sandeep Giri from Jarauli Phase-2, alongside Krishna Giri and Dhananjay Giri, residents of Dharampur village under Saidpur police station in Ghazipur.Inspector Govindnagar Pradeep Kumar Singh said that the arrests took place beneath the highway overbridge. The group operated in two coordinated units. The first unit conducted surveillance using a vehicle to identify potential targets. Subsequently, the loader unit, comprising three members, proceeded with the theft. During these operations, the surveillance unit maintained a distant position for security purposes.The authorities presented the suspects before the court, following which they were remanded to judicial custody. tnn
