Noida: The traffic police have advised commuters to use the metro and other public transport facilities to avoid congestion near Sector 18, Atta Market and the nearby shopping malls on Christmas.During the festive season, Sector 18 and Atta Market become crowd pullers as a large number of people turn up for festive shopping. The twin commercial hubs are renowned for their vibrant atmosphere and a wide range of budget-friendly products, attracting families, youth and last-minute shoppers.

The deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Pravin Ranjan Singh, said footfall is likely to rise significantly in Sector 18 market, Atta Market, GIP Mall, DLF Mall and other major shopping destinations in Noida and Greater Noida on Christmas. “This is likely to affect traffic movement. We urge people to use the metro and other public transport facilities. Traffic police teams will be deployed at key locations and vehicles parked at unauthorized places will be towed away,” he said.Traffic police, till now, have been issuing fines to BS III and BS IV vehicles due to the rise in pollution. “Challans are being issued for PUC violations and violations of GRAP norms. “Visitors are advised to ensure their vehicles comply with GRAP and CAQM orders,” Singh added.Commuters have also been advised to take alternative routes and avoid congested areas on Thursday. The police have issued a helpline number, 9971009001, for public assistance.
