Tata Motors secures over 3,400 electric commercial vehicle orders

has secured more than 3,400 orders for electric commercial vehicles (eCVs) across freight, logistics and passenger mobility segments, reflecting growing adoption of electric mobility among commercial fleet operators in India.

The orders include around 2,000 small commercial vehicles and pick-ups, nearly 900 trucks and about 500 buses. The vehicles will be deployed across a wide range of sectors including e-commerce, logistics, FMCG and consumer durables distribution, urban mobility, as well as industries such as cement, steel, mining and airport tarmac operations. The buses will serve both intra-city and inter-city passenger transport requirements.

The order wins underscore increasing customer acceptance of electric commercial vehicles beyond pilot projects and indicate a broader shift towards large-scale deployment across commercial applications.

India’s commercial vehicle electrification market is gradually moving from early adoption to mainstream use, with operators increasingly integrating electric vehicles into daily operations. Tata Motors, which has built one of the country’s broadest electric commercial vehicle portfolios, has been expanding its offerings across vehicle categories to cater to different operating requirements.

Over the past year, the company has strengthened its electric commercial vehicle lineup with products aimed at varying payload and duty-cycle requirements. In the small commercial vehicle category, the portfolio includes the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV and Intra EV, which are primarily targeted at last-mile and intra-city distribution. The company has also expanded into intermediate and heavy-duty electric trucks through the Ultra EV range in the 7-12 tonne segment, along with the Prima EV 55T tractor and Prima EV 28T tipper for heavier freight operations.

In the passenger transport segment, Tata Motors offers electric buses under the Starbus EV and Ultra EV brands, catering to both urban and inter-city mobility needs.

The latest order inflow adds to Tata Motors’ existing electric commercial vehicle presence. The company said it currently has more than 3,800 electric buses operating across multiple cities, which have collectively covered over 55 crore kilometres. In the small commercial vehicle category, more than 17,000 Tata electric SCVs are currently on Indian roads.

The automaker has also been expanding the supporting ecosystem required for commercial EV adoption. Its efforts include partnerships with more than 14 charging point operators, EV-focused financing arrangements with banks and non-banking finance companies, fleet management services through its Fleet Edge platform, and uptime assurance programmes aimed at reducing operational disruptions.

The company said its focus remains on providing end-to-end electric mobility solutions covering vehicles, charging infrastructure, financing and fleet management, as businesses increasingly transition towards zero-emission transportation.
