School van hits BRTS railing in Ahmedabad’s Kankaria area, students safe; car overturns

Ahmedabad: Two separate road accidents allegedly caused by overspeeding were reported in the city on Friday, though no serious injuries were recorded. A school van from Divan Ballubhai School carrying 10 students rammed into the BRTS railing near Khodiyarnagar bridge in Kankaria around 8am. The impact damaged the van’s front and shattered its windscreen. None of the students were injured. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the van was allegedly being driven rashly. Officials also found that the van did not have a commercial number plate, which is mandatory for school transport vehicles. It had a private number plate, raising questions over compliance with transport norms. In another incident in the wee hours of Friday, two cars collided in Nava Vadaj, causing one of them to flip over. The injured driver of this car was rushed a hospital. Police said overspeeding appeared to be the primary cause in both cases.
