Ducati Desmo450 MX Launched In India At Rs 17.24 Lakh

Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has officially launched the Desmo450 MX in India at a price of Rs 17.24 lakh (ex-showroom). The launch comes almost exactly a year after the bike made its global debut and marks an important milestone for Ducati as it enters the world of motocross racing motorcycles.

Ducati has been known for its high-performance road bikes and superbikes. However, the Desmo450 MX represents the company’s first dedicated dirt bike, designed specifically for off-road racing and motocross competition. With this launch, Ducati is expanding its presence into a completely new segment of motorcycling.

Engine

At the heart of the Desmo450 MX lies a newly developed 449.6cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. This engine produces 63.5 horsepower and 53.5 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful engines in its class.

One of the most unique features of this engine is Ducati’s famous Desmodromic valve system, a technology usually found on the brand’s superbikes. This system allows the engine to rev higher and perform more efficiently at high speeds. In fact, the Desmo450 MX has an impressive rev limit of 11,900 rpm, which is quite high for a motocross machine.

Performance

Motocross motorcycles are built to be extremely light and agile, and Ducati has focused heavily on this aspect. The Desmo450 MX is built around a lightweight aluminium perimeter frame designed to minimise welds while maintaining strong structural rigidity.

Thanks to this design approach, the bike weighs just 104.8 kg (wet weight without fuel), which helps riders maintain better control while jumping, cornering and tackling rough terrain.

The suspension system consists of fully adjustable Showa components, offering 310 mm of travel at the front and 301 mm at the rear. This long suspension travel is essential for absorbing big bumps and landings during off-road racing. Braking duties are handled by high-performance Brembo brakes, ensuring strong stopping power even in demanding racing conditions.

Electronics

Despite being a race-focused machine, the Desmo450 MX also features a sophisticated electronics package. Ducati has equipped the bike with traction control, launch control, engine brake control and two riding modes.

These features can be adjusted using Ducati’s X-Link app via WiFi, allowing riders to fine-tune the bike’s performance based on track conditions or personal riding preferences.

Off-Road Racing

Unlike typical motorcycles sold in India, the Desmo450 MX is not road legal. It does not come with headlights, mirrors or other equipment required for street riding. The motorcycle is designed purely for professional motocross racing or track use. Because of its race-focused design, it also requires regular maintenance similar to competition machines. Ducati recommends oil changes every 15 hours of use, while the piston replacement and valve clearance checks should be done every 45 hours.

With the launch of the Desmo450 MX, Ducati is clearly signalling its intention to expand into the off-road racing world. The motorcycle combines Ducati’s engineering expertise with lightweight construction and advanced electronics.
