New Triumph 350cc Bikes to be Sold as 400s in India

  • Entire 400 range will be powered by a 350cc motor
  • India launch on 6 April

Triumph Motorcycles is all set to introduce new, smaller-capacity iterations of its 400 range in India on 6 April 2026. Interestingly, despite being powered by a 350cc engine, these motorcycles will continue to be marketed as ‘400s’.

Now, this might sound a bit misleading at first, but from a business standpoint, it makes complete sense. The Triumph 400 range has already established strong brand recall in India, and calling these bikes ‘350’ could dilute that perception. In a segment where numbers often drive buying decisions, sticking to the ‘400’ badge will help maintain the aspirational value.

It also simplifies things at the dealership level. Selling a ‘400cc’ motorcycle is far easier than explaining why the engine has been downsized. And more importantly, most buyers in this space don’t obsess over the exact displacement and power figures as long as the bike is ‘400cc’.

As for the mechanicals, these new bikes will use a downsized version of the existing 398cc engine. Whether Triumph Motorcycles reduces the bore for better tractability or shortens the stroke for a peaky top-end remains to be seen.

We’ll be riding these new 350cc-based Triumphs soon to see how different they feel from the 398cc bikes in the real world. Stay tuned.
