Triumph Scrambler 400 X, 400XC launched with new 350cc engines

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the Scrambler 400 XC have been launched in India with the new 350cc engines. The Scrambler 400 X will now cost Rs. 2.69 lakh ,while the Scrambler XC will set you back by Rs. 2.89 lakh.

These prices are ex-showroom, Delhi and roughly Rs.10,000 less than the outgoing 400s. The new 350cc Triumphs have been created to fall under the 18 per cent GST tax slab to allow these bikes to be priced competitively. Otherwise, they’d have attracted 40 per cent tax, since the size of their engines was above the 350cc cut-off.

That said, Triumph has refrained from changing the badging from 400 to 350, to depict the cubic capacity. Besides the drop in prices, there is a drop in peak power and torque as well.

The new engine develops 36.49bhp at 8,500rpm and 32Nm at 7,000rpm. In comparison, the previous engine used to make 39.45bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. The new engine not only makes lower power and torque but one also needs to rev the engine more to access them.

Bookings for the new Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the Scrambler 400 XC have begun and deliveries are set to commence soon.
